      Prof. Emilio Gil

      Emilio Gil is Full Professor of the Department of Agri-Food Engineering and Biotechnology at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and Director of Unit of Agricultural Machinery – UMA research group.He serves as Professor at PhD program in Agri-Food Technology and Biotechnology at UPC.  He was a Visiting Professor at Cornell University (USA). He has been invited expert of EIP-AGRI Focus Group in Precision Farming. Further information here.

      UMA – UPC RESEARCH GROUP

      The Agricultural Mechanization Unit (UMA) at UPC is a leading research group specializing in agricultural machinery and precision farming. UMA is proud to be the organizer of ECPA2025, the world’s premier scientific event in precision agriculture.

      With extensive experience in European research projects such as Horizon 2020’s NOVATERRA, CANOPIES, INNOSETA, OPTIMA, and leading the RENOVATE project, UMA drives innovation in sustainable crop protection and advanced agricultural technologies. UMA has also international experience on education skills and programs related with precision agriculture, with great experience in ERASMUS+ projects as AGRICT and AGRISAT, offering a combined vision of research and education.

      The group has a strong track record in research, technology transfer, and education at all levels, including supervision of numerous national and international doctoral theses. UMA maintains an extensive network of collaborations with universities, research centers, and companies worldwide.

      UMA offers international training programs and collaborates closely with the European Commission and industry partners. Their expertise spans sensors, drones, autonomous vehicles, satellite imagery, and crop monitoring systems—making them a key contributor to the future of precision agriculture.
